What happens: Even with a steady hand, paint spreads past the printed edge, especially on fine detail sections or where two colors sit close together. Once it happens a few times, the picture starts looking muddier than the reference image, and a lot of painters lose motivation right there.
Why it happens: It usually comes down to the paint's viscosity and how the ink boundary reacts to it. Paint that's too thin migrates along the canvas fibers before it dries; a printed line that isn't sealed well lets pigment wick across it under a wet brush.
