More coats? Layering a see-through paint just stacks transparency on transparency. Ten thin coats of a translucent formula still let light through to the number — you get buildup and cracking, not coverage.
Pressing harder / a thicker brush? That spreads the same weak paint thinner, so it hides less, not more — and splays your bristles.
Watering it down to "flow better"? Every drop of water dilutes the one ingredient that hides the number. You're literally making the problem worse to fix it.
Buying another "premium" budget kit? Same factories, same watered formula, nicer box. You'll be painting over the same ghost numbers next week.
Doing nothing? The kit sits in the closet, the money's already spent, and every time you see it you feel a little worse about "not being creative." I wasted months and three kits before I stopped blaming myself and asked the only question that mattered: why does the number show through at all?
