How the DIY Frame Works

The Do-It-Yourself Frame (or Wooden Frame) is a snap-together wooden stretcher set that turns your rolled canvas into a gallery-tight, ready-to-hang piece—at home.

  • What’s included: 4 stretcher bars, corner fasteners, pins/tacks
  • Setup (≈5 minutes): slot bars together → wrap canvas → pin/tack the back.
  • Why it’s better: keeps the canvas flat while you paint, gives a pro, tight finish, and hangs flush to the wall the moment you’re done.
  • Good for: gifting, display-ready results, or anyone who doesn’t want to hunt for a frame later.

Picking Your Paint Palette

Pick based on how detailed you want the final look—and how much time you’d like to spend.

24 colors (standard) — Quicker & easier

  • Fewer color swaps → faster progress (great weekend project).
  • Smooth, clean results with balanced detail.
  • Best for beginners or anyone who wants a relaxing, low-effort paint.

36 colors (+ ~6 hours) — Richer detail

  • More shades for softer gradients and depth.
  • Looks closest to the original artwork from a distance.
  • Best for patient painters who enjoy fine detail and don’t mind extra time.

Still not sure? Start with 24 colors for a smooth, satisfying first experience. You can always choose 36 colors on your next kit.

Pacific Northwest gems

Two large pictures of Mount Rainier, The Mt. Rainier scenic railroad, and Reflection Lake of Mt Rainer. And a smaller picture of Snoqualmie Falls. The railroad picture is especially colorful and has a graphic novel kind of feel. The Reflection Lake turned out marvelous. The frames were made from scrap lumber. I've completed 50 Wander Paintings and have only had one that I didn't like. That's a satisfaction rating of 98%! I love giving these as gifts, especially as I live in the Pacific Northwest where these paintings are of hiking and climbing grounds. I can see Rainier from my house.

Loved this one

I took this kit and turned the helmet into my high school helmet. I’m super happy with the finished product.

Custom picture order

I’ve completed a half dozen of Wander Painting pictures over this past year. I was looking for something new and saw that they would make a custom painting from a photograph that I would send to them. I wasn’t sure what to expect but when the kit finally arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The canvas was breathtaking. I put the previous canvas on hold and jumped right into my latest purchase. The detail is amazing. I can’t wait until it’s finished and framed. Thanks Wander Painting and my advocate Joy, you’re the Best!

I love this kit!!!

The quality of this kit is the best I’ve seen, and I’ve done a lot! I ordered 3 more! 1 coat paint coverage and excellent canvas make these hard to beat.

Deer painting

I love the colors and the paints are easy to work with. The only weird thing about the painting is it gives the fawn three front legs.

Mormon barns kit

This is definitely in my top three pictures. It is beautiful— the colors are great. The actual scene is about as true to the real barns as you can get. It was pretty easy to paint even with tiny spaces to fill. I look at it and want to start saving immediately for our next trip out to the Tetons.

The geisha cat

This was the hardest one yet! The little teeny whiskers and different colors of her head were extremely detailed. And I went rogue and colored her garments with brighter colors and also the cherry blossoms because I’m not a subtle person!! That said, I am so pleased with this kitty and have her displayed prominently on my big display easel. She makes me smile every time I see her eyes staring back at me with such seriousness. I’m so glad I painted her!

Striking and unique!

I kept coming back to this design because of the high contrast and creepiness. I loved painting this one. The dark and cool colors were so satisfying to paint over the white canvas. It’s one of those PBN that hits different when you look at it. I already sent this recommendation to a friend.

Love this one!

I love this design and the color palette. The paint is really good quality and didn’t have to put a million coats on. This was a test run to see how I liked this company and definitely getting more now.

New York Statue of Liberty Paint by Number set

This is my first Wander Painting. I love the artistic rendering of the NY skyline. I started with the larger areas first working top to bottom and now am adding finer areas. It is very engrossing and enjoyable.

Printing issues

The print of this is ok; however I ordered the expanded kit with 36 colors and there are clearly some places where the print is misnumbered. There are duplicate colors next to each other that should be labeled differently. For the price (and the number of insane emails I received telling me about their quality control), I expected better quality.

Not Mt Washington

This is a picture of a beautiful mountain. Turned out nicely. But... There are numerous Mount Washingtons in the US, the most famous being the one in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Then one in the Olympic National Park and also one in the Cascades. After doing research I found that none of the Mt. Washington's bears even a slight
resemblance to the photo attached, hence the letters have yet to been painted.

Great to have this painting. I can see Mt Tahoma (Rainier) and have bee to this falls numerous times. This is my 34th Wander painting which says it all.

Mackinac Bridge

I just finished the first of my Wander Painting projects. It was the Mighty Mac aka the Mackinac Bridge. It was challenging, yet relaxing and fun. I'm so happy with how it turned out. I personally found the paint easier to apply after adding a few drops of water, or Flotrol from a disposable syringe to thin the paint. I just stirred it in with a toothpick.

I can't wait to start my next piece, as I plan to paint all of the Great Lakes for a collage.

It works!

I had a family photo from my childhood turned in to a Wander Painting kit. I was a bit skeptical. How would it work? What would I get? It worked really well. There is a lot of detail (Downside of detail is that there are some really small spaces to paint. Upside is that it produces a better end product.) I haven't quite finished the painting, but I'm uploading what I have so far. It gives a good idea of what the end result will be.

Pinnacles

Loved painting the vibrant greens against the light brown and reddish rocks. Great sky.

Great idea for travel memories!

I love doing paint by numbers and love the idea of the travel posters! It was a great way to use my hobby and commemorate trips taken recently. My only complaint is that the Iceland poster I received did not match the picture online. Otherwise everything was in great condition, the paints were great and there was enough of each color. The brushes were good and I liked receiving the different sized brushes.
